Vice-rector for Scientific Affairs of Azerbaijan University, doctor of Mathematical Sciences Yusif Gasimov made a plenary report on “Higher education in Azerbaijan: modern challenges” at the Republican scientific-practical conference titled “Development strategy of the Republic of Azerbaijan: potential opportunities and new challenges” held at the Military Institute named after Heydar Aliyev. Report touched upon the role of education and scientific research at all levels in implementation of the President's call ”for transition from an oil-based economy to an economy based on human capital", current challenges and problems in this area, ways to solve them, the practice of advanced countries and other similar issues. 

More than 20 higher educational institutions, academies, research institutes and organizations took part in the conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. Azerbaijan University was represented at the event by Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs Yusif Gasimov and Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technologies Asif Pashayev.
