A memorandum of cooperation was signed between Azerbaijan University and Chankiri Karatekin University of Turkey, as well as a protocol on joint activities within the Erasmus exchange program. The documents were signed by the rector of Azerbaijan University Saadat Aliyeva and the rector of Chankiri Karatekin University Harun Chiftchi.
At the meeting held between the delegations at Azerbaijan Universiy, Rector Saadat Aliyeva informed about the activities of the higher education institution, its development, stages of education, specialties taught, personnel and international relations, as well as the goals of the university. The rector said that the expansion of international cooperation is one of the priorities, and in this regard, relations with Turkish universities are in the first place. Vice-rector for scientific affairs of Azerbaijan University Yusif Gasimov briefed the delegation on scientific activities. The vice-rector said that the Cabinet of Ministers has set requirements for granting universities the status of "research university". Obtaining this status is one of the priority goals of the University of Azerbaijan and relevant work is being done in this direction. According to the number of articles published in indexed journals, Azerbaijan University ranks second among the universities of the republic. According to the Scopus database Scimago Institutions Rankings for 2022, the university has achieved great success in research activities, entered the world rankings in the Q1 category and ranked third in the country. The list includes only 8 institutions from Azerbaijan, including 4 universities, 3 scientific institutes and 1 scientific center.
Rector of Chankiri Karatekin University Harun Chiftchi, in turn, gave information about the university he heads. Harun Ciftci said that the relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey are at a stage to be proud of. Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdogan want to continue the work they started in the field of education. The rector expressed confidence that the work to be done in the framework of cooperation will be of great benefit not only for universities but also for Turkey and Azerbaijan.
The sides exchanged views on various areas of cooperation, internationalization of universities, organization of teacher and student exchanges, as well as joint research, scientific events and other issues of mutual interest. Turkey-Azerbaijan relations have a solid foundation. It was emphasized that it is constantly evolving. It was noted that the fraternal and friendly relations between our countries have entered a qualitatively new stage in a number of areas, Azerbaijan University and Chankiri Karatekin University will be very pleased to contribute to this new stage in science and education.
The delegation of Chankiri Karatekin University included Rector Harun Chiftchi, Vice Rector Huseyin Odabaş, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Sciences Abdulselam Arvas, Head of International Relations and Erasmus Program Coordinator Shuayip Turan, Director of the Institute of Social Sciences Joshkun Polat and Director of the Career Center Barish Oztuna.
