Сommemorate event dedicated to the memory of national leader Heydar Aliyev was held at Azerbaijan University. On the eve of the event, the university staff visited grave of the national leader on the Alley of Honor and paid tribute to his memory.

The event started with performance of the National Anthem. Memory of the national leader was honored with a minute of silence. 

With an introductory speech, the memorial event was opened by Yusif Gasimov, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs. In his speech, the Vice-rector noted that Heydar Aliyev is a great historical figure and a powerful statesman who left his mark on the history of Azerbaijan. At the events held by Azerbaijan University throughout the year, multifaceted activities of the great historical figure - Heydar Aliyev are considered from different aspects. Yusif Gasimov emphasized in his speech that the National leader Heydar Aliyev has made an invaluable merits in inscribing the name of Azerbaijan, which is small in terms of territory compared to many countries of the world, in world history as a “great nation”, and in the fact that Azerbaijan over a few 10 years has passed the path traversed by many countries over 100 years.

Guest of the event, the Head of the Executive Power of Nasimi district Asif Askerov in his speech noted the merits of the National Leader in both periods of his rule in Azerbaijan in such areas as achieving the development of the country, increasing its authority in the international arena, force development, and protection of independence. The Head of the Executive Power stressed that Heydar Aliyev has shaped the present of Azerbaijan with his far-sighted and rich experience of statehood, and Heydar Aliyev's policy is aimed at developing the future of Azerbaijan.  

Then the head of the Aliyev Studies Department of the Institute of History of ANAS, Prof. Adalat Gasimov made a report on the topic “The National Leader Heydar Aliyev – the great person, the great personality” and Prof. of the Social Sciences Department of Azerbaijan University, Dr. of Arts Vafa Aliyev on the topic “Contribution of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev to the development of Azerbaijani culture". 

National leader Heydar Aliyev's special concern for the development of literature, culture, art and education was emphasized in the speeches. It was noted that the policy of great personality Heydar Aliyev is successfully continued by President Ilham Aliyev and enriched with new provisions. The grandiose victory in Karabakh is the logical result of process and reforms laid down by Heydar Aliyev.
