Head of Department of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora meets with students of Azerbaijan University

The Head of Department of the State Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Work with Diaspora, PhD in History Javid Ismayil, met with students of Azerbaijan University. The meeting was organized within the framework of the project “Diplomacy Through the Eyes of Youth”, jointly initiated by the Student Youth Organization and the Young Diplomats Club of Azerbaijan University.

During the meeting, Javid Ismayil emphasized that the diaspora, as a strategic factor, is an important element of modern international relations, noted that since the restoration of state independence, continuous efforts have been made to organize and unite the Azerbaijani diaspora around a common idea. He stressed that diaspora policy and institution-building, initiated by the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, constitute one of the key directions of Azerbaijan’s state policy. The Azerbaijani state attaches great importance to diaspora-building efforts, and the political course pursued by President Ilham Aliyev in line with global requirements continues these traditions and further strengthens the diaspora movement.

In his remarks, he spoke about Azerbaijan’s diaspora activities, the establishment of the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora, the main objectives of its operations, the events, projects, and programs it implements, the activities of the Fund for Support to the Azerbaijani Diaspora, the initiatives and projects financed by the Fund, the national unity of Azerbaijanis living abroad, Azerbaijan’s representation at the international level and cooperation with diaspora structures of other nations and so on. The department head noted that Azerbaijan’s diaspora activities contribute to the formation of a unified global network of Azerbaijanis. These efforts aim to promote the country, disseminate information about its historical and cultural heritage and modern development, protect Azerbaijan’s interests in the information sphere, and prevent disinformation. This work is carried out under the coordination and guidance of the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora. Emphasizing that the process of institutionalizing the Azerbaijani diaspora and uniting Azerbaijanis worldwide is ongoing, he answered the students’ questions following his presentation.
