An event on the occasion of World Social Work Day was held at Azerbaijan University. Nigar Shahhuseynbayova, Head of the Social Work Organization Department, opened the trade solidarity event, which is traditionally organized every year, and informed about the history and essence of the Day. The head of the department noted that in 1983, the International Federation of Social Workers declared the third Tuesday of March every year as the World Social Work Day. World Social Work Day, dedicated to one of the topics of the global agenda every year, is celebrated this year under the slogan “Buen Vivir: Shared Future for Transformative Change”. 

Nigar Shahhuseynbayova informed the participants of the event on the social philosophy of ”Buen Vivir” and emphasized the importance of the Social Work specialty in light of the events happening in the world and in our country. The head of the department also spoke about the steps taken to improve the Institute of Social Work in our country and practical activities in this area. 

Later, the speeches of Samira Bakhshaliyeva, a 3rd-year student of Social Work, chairperson of the “Empathy” club operating under the Department, and Mahammad Alakbarov, a 2023 graduate of Social Work, were heard on the topic.  

It should be noted that the purpose of the World Social Work Day is to highlight the activities of social workers, and their contributions to the development of society, and to remind the importance of the problems of people in need of special care.
