Azerbaijan University commemorates National Leader Heydar Aliyev
Today marks the 21st anniversary of the passing of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. In honor of this occasion, the staff of Azerbaijan University visited the Alley of Honor, laid flowers at the monument of the National Leader, and paid their respects to his memory.
Following the visit to the Alley of Honor, a commemorative event was organized in the academic building of the University. The event began with the National Anthem, and a moment of silence was observed in tribute to the National Leader.
Speakers at the commemorative event included Yusif Gasimov, Vice-Rector for scientific affairs of the University, MP Elchin Mirzabayli, political scientists Anar Aliyev, Aytan Gurbanova, Ilyas Huseynov, and Samir Humbatov. They reflected on the unparalleled historical contributions of national leader Heydar Aliyev to the Azerbaijani state and people, as well as the key aspects and directions of his political and state-building activities during both periods of his leadership. It was emphasized that Heydar Aliyev's signature is imprinted on every page of Azerbaijan's history over the past 50 years. The Azerbaijani people are fortunate to have had such a wise leader who not only envisioned the nation's future but actively participated in the implementation of national ideas, leaving behind a rich legacy.
It was highlighted that under the guidance of President Ilham Aliyev and based on the principles of the National Leader, the fundamental objectives facing the Azerbaijani people and state have been achieved. The sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country have been fully secured. Today, the tricolor flag of Azerbaijan proudly waves over every inch of the modern, strong, and independent state — a creation and legacy of Heydar Aliyev.
It was also stated that one of the next goals of the Azerbaijani state is to ensure the return to Western Azerbaijan. This return, as a continuation of the Great Return to Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur, will also be realized in the near future.
