Azerbaijan University announces a competition for the “Best Student Research Paper” on the topic “Revival of Karabakh - Eco Projects” within the framework of the “Year of Solidarity for the Sake of the Green World”. The competition aims to ensure the active participation of youth in the construction works initiated in the liberated lands. The competition envisages the collection of new environmental and innovative ideas of undergraduate and graduate students representing all universities of Azerbaijan, as well as proposals for implementing the “Smart City - Smart Village” concept into reality, identifying young talents, and engaging them in scientific research. The main focus of the competition is to identify the best scientific-practical projects that will help improve the environment, reduce its negative impact on health, and enhance the quality of life for the population.

The competition is conducted in the following directions:

• Alternative and renewable energy and its storage (wind, solar-thermal, hydropower, biomass, biogas, marine systems, hydrogen, etc.)
• Energy conservation, management and efficiency (energy management, power grids, power generation systems, energy-saving devices, alternative engines)
• Energy management, energy conservation in transport, conventional and alternative types of fuels (alternative fuels, hybrid vehicles, alternative transport systems, alternative engines)
• Energy, Science, Technology and Society (legal frameworks and governing bodies, financial schemes and international, regional and local programs, climate change, meteorology, ecotourism, ecology and development)
• Sustainable energy systems and intelligent networks
• Architectural and design projects (smart city, environmentally friendly construction materials, eco-design, innovative construction technologies)
• Cleanup of territories contaminated during occupation and as a result of military operations and making it suitable for agriculture

The competition will be conducted in 2 stages. The 1st stage, which covers the dates from May 3 to May 15, 2024, will select the best research papers for participation in the 2nd stage. The results of the 1st stage will be posted on the competition's website. The 2nd stage will take place from May 17 to May 30, 2024. Participants who pass this stage will present their projects before the commission. Each participant will be given 20 minutes, and the level of preparation of the presentations and their delivery to the audience will also be evaluated.

The submitted works will be evaluated by the commission on the following criteria: relevance and novelty of the work; the originality of the research approach; depth and innovativeness of the conducted research; compliance and justification of the obtained results with the issues posed; theoretical and applied significance of the research; preparation of the presentation, use of interactive materials during the presentation. The winners of the competition will be awarded diplomas of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degrees, gifts, and a cash prize. The winner of the competition will receive a prize of 1000 manats, 800 manats for the 2nd place, and 600 manats for the 3rd place. Additionally, awards will be given for additional nominations, such as the most interesting presentation and the most innovative project. The final decision on the selection and the award ceremony for the winners will take place on June 14, 2024, at Azerbaijan University. Those wishing to participate in the competition can submit their work along with the application form to elm@au.edu.az by April 30, 2024.
