A commemorative event dedicated to September 27 - Remembrance Day was held at Azerbaijan University.

The ceremony opened with the performance of the State Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan, followed by a minute of silence in honor of the soldiers and officers who sacrificed their lives for the independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of the country. It was emphasized that Remembrance Day was established five years ago by a corresponding decree of President Ilham Aliyev as a profound tribute to the soldiers and officers who heroically fought in the Patriotic War, raised the Azerbaijani flag over the territories liberated from occupation, laid down their lives for the territorial integrity of the homeland, and to all our martyrs. The Azerbaijani state and people do not forget their martyrs; today, every Azerbaijani carries in their heart deep pride and honor, respect and boundless reverence for their souls. Every citizen of the country takes pride in the valiant Azerbaijani Armed Forces and the Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev.

The event began with an opening speech by Yusif Gasimov, Vice-Rector of the University for Scientific Affairs. In his address devoted to the construction of the Victory Road, Mr. Gasimov touched upon the causes and consequences of the counteroffensive launched by the Azerbaijani Army on September 27, 2020, in response to large-scale provocations by the Armenian armed forces along the front line, which later named Iron Fist operation, escalated into the Patriotic War. Drawing attention to the decisive moments of the 44-day Patriotic War and the key factors behind the Great Victory, Yusif Gasimov stressed that the unprecedented speed and dedication with which the Azerbaijani Army liberated the occupied territories were the result of national unity, the courage of Azerbaijani soldiers, and the firm resolve of the President of Azerbaijan. He underlined the significance of establishing Remembrance Day, noting that young people must cherish and safeguard the memory of the martyrs, and contribute to the further strengthening of Azerbaijan.

The next speaker was Shohrat Eyvazov, a guest of honor, Karabakh War veteran, journalist, recipient of the “Progress” medal, and Karabakh correspondent of Ictimai TV. In his remarks, Shohrat Eyvazov highlighted the crucial role of providing the people with information during the Patriotic War and emphasized that the work of Azerbaijani journalists during that period deserves the highest recognition. Sharing his wartime experience with students, the journalist presented the materials and reports he prepared at the front, describing the Karabakh War as “the greatest school of his life”. Shohrat Eyvazov also spoke about the journalists who lost their lives in the line of duty during the First and Second Karabakh Wars, honoring the memory of all heroes who sacrificed their lives for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan between 1988 and 2020, including media martyrs.
