Infotour of the economic areas of “Tamiz Shahar” OJSC has been organized for the first-year students majoring in Organization of Tourism Business of Azerbaijan University. The students were led by the Head of the Finance and Accounting Department Nariman Boyukkishi. 

Orkhan Jabbarov, Head of the Public Relations Department of “Tamiz Shahar” OJSC, provided students with detailed information about the activities of the enterprise, solid waste management and recycling process in Baku. As part of the infotour, the students got acquainted with the production areas of the Balakhani Solid Waste Sorting Plant and Balakhani Industrial Park. 

A small museum, created from valuable items collected during the sorting process, attracted much interest from the students. It was also mentioned that collected metal coins are used for charitable purposes. 

Orkhan Jabbarov highlighted that favorable conditions have been created at the Balakhany Industrial Park for entrepreneurs interested in recycling, with 27 registered residents engaging in waste. These residents focus on recycling used motor oils, plastic bottles and materials, and paper and cardboard products.

Orkhan Jabbarov also informed students about the operations of the Baku Solid Waste Incineration Plant. He noted that the plant, built on 20 hectares and launched in 2012, can generate up to 200 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year through waste incineration. The energy produced here can fully supply electricity to 100,000 households annually.

After the infotour, the students took a trip to the Balakhany settlement. 

It should be noted that the infotour and excursion were organized in line with the action plan of Azerbaijan University as part of the “Year of Solidarity for a Green World” and COP29, following the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated December 25, 2023.
