A meeting with representatives of the U.S. Embassy was held at Azerbaijan University
Within the framework of their visit to Baku, Azerbaijan University was visited by John Silver, Head of the Regional English Language Office (RELO) of the United States Department of State, Aykan Yaman, an Office Specialist, and Cora Manske, an officer of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The delegation that met with the Rector of the University, PhD in Philology Saadat Aliyeva, also included Randy Cole, cultural advisor of the United States Embassy in Azerbaijan, and Sabina Abdullayeva, an Embassy staff member.
The event was also attended by Yusif Gasimov, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs of Azerbaijan University; Nushaba Guliyeva, Advisor to the Rector and Director of the International Center for Master’s and Doctoral Students; Aygun Gasimova, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages; Elmira Ismayilova, Head of the International Relations Department; and Lala Dilanova, Head of the Public Relations Department.
Rector of Azerbaijan University Saadat Aliyeva informed the guests about the history of the University she heads, the specialties taught, the University`s international relations, priorities, and strategic goals. The Rector noted that internationalization is one of the main directions of the University’s development strategy. Azerbaijan University systematically builds its activities based on modern challenges and academic quality standards in all areas of its activity.
Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs Yusif Gasimov spoke about the scientific activity of the University and drew attention to its positions in international rankings. The Vice-Rector noted that the University ranks 5th in the country in terms of scientific indicators in such prestigious scientific databases as Web of Science and Scopus. This indicator demonstrates the strengthening of Azerbaijan University position in the scientific environment.
Cultural advisor of the U.S. Embassy Randy Cole and head of the RELO John Silver provided information about the international educational programs implemented by the Office. It was noted that the main goal of the Regional English Language Office is to support English language teaching and the professional development of lecturers in different countries.
The meeting, at which future directions of cooperation were discussed, concluded with an exchange of views on issues of mutual interest.
