Albert Camus’s novel “The Stranger” was the focus of discussion at the Literary Fiction Club.
A new session of the “Voice of the Books” literary fiction club, operating under the Department of Translation and Philology, was held to discuss the famous novel “The Stranger” by French writer Albert Camus. In addition to students from Azerbaijan University, the meeting also welcomed a group of students from the Azerbaijan Tourism and Management University, invited by the Student Scientific Society of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The meeting was opened by Jansu Nazarova, a first-year Social Work student and one of the club’s active members, who gave a brief introduction to the work under discussion. Then, Gulnar Rzayeva, head of the Department and Doctor of Philology, provided an overview of Albert Camus’s literary contributions and highlighted the philosophical and literary significance of the novel. Lecturer Emiliya Aliyeva continued the presentation by delving into Camus’s literary legacy and analyzing the thematic depth of “The Stranger”. She explored the artistic and philosophical nuances of the text and shared her insights with the participants.
During the main discussion, students explored the philosophical depth of the novel, engaging with central themes such as absurdism and alienation, shared reflections on these topics, discussed the philosophical dimensions of the work, and examined how Camus portrays the relationship between the individual and society. The session continued in an interactive format, with students building on each other’s ideas, offering varied interpretations, and exchanging diverse analytical perspectives.
At the end of the session, it was decided that the next club meeting would focus on the short story “The sixth floor of a five-story building” by Anar, the writer, playwright, and chairman of the Union of Azerbaijani Writers.
