Sevlan Gurbanova, a representative of the International Relations Department of Azerbaijan University, participated in an international workshop hosted by the Baku Higher Oil School. The event, organized with the involvement of members of the Black Sea Universities Network (BSUN), the World Academy of Art and Science, and partners from the Black Sea Sustainable Development Solutions Network, focused on the role of universities in promoting peace and security.

The event opened with a welcome address by Elmar Gasimov, Rector of the Baku Higher Oil School, who emphasized the significant role of universities in fostering peace and security. He highlighted the strategic importance of educational institutions in ensuring global stability and development, and stressed the need to enhance international collaboration.

Panel discussions, moderated by Professor Eden Mamut, Secretary General of the Black Sea Universities Network, featured a robust exchange of views on human security across the wider Black Sea region - from the Caucasus to the Balkans. Participants emphasized the importance of systemic and interdisciplinary approaches in promoting peace and security in the region, and agreed on priority areas for future inter-university cooperation.

Keynote speakers included: Garry Jacobs, President and CEO of the World Academy of Art and Science; Emil Constantinescu, former President of Romania; Joanna Nos, Director General of the InterAction Council; Jonathan Granoff, President of the Global Security Institute and Trustee of the World Academy of Art and Science; Prof. Phoebe Koundouri, President of the World Council of Environmental and Resource Economists Associations and Chair of the UN Global Climate Hub for Sustainable Development Solutions; Prof. Grigoris Zarotiadis, Board Member of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki; Steven Hartman, Founder and Executive Director of the BRIDGES Coalition for Sustainable Development; Janani Ramanathan, Secretary General of the World Academy of Art and Science; and Grant Schreiber, South African publisher, author, and member of the World University Consortium.

It is worth noting that the BSUN, established in 1998, serves as a platform for strengthening cooperation among universities in the Black Sea region and acts as a sectoral dialogue partner of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation.
