Azerbaijan University hosted an awareness event titled “Early Marriage – Lost Aspirations”
An awareness event titled “Early Marriage – Lost Aspirations” was held at Azerbaijan University on the initiative of the “Sossfera” Social Development Club, operating under the Department of Social Work Organization. The event welcomed Kamala Agazada, Chairperson of the public association “Children of Azerbaijan”, as the guest speaker.
The event opened with welcoming remarks by Jansu Nazarova, a second-year Social Work student and President of the Club. She emphasized the relevance and importance of the topic and introduced the guest to the audience. Speaking on “Say NO to Early Marriage”, the Club president highlighted the negative impact of early marriage on society, education, and individuals’ personal lives.
Guest speaker Kamala Agazada provided detailed information on the current situation regarding early marriages observed in various regions of the country, relevant statistics, and measures taken in this direction. She stated that early marriages often lead to girls dropping out of school and result in significant physical and psychological harm. Agazada stressed the importance of awareness-raising efforts and the need for coordinated action among government agencies, NGOs, and the wider community.
Then the Head of the Department of Social Work Organization Nigar Shakhhuseynbayova and the idealogical founder of the Club, and department lecturer Aykhan Shahbazov also shared their views on the issue.
The event featured video materials highlighting the consequences of early marriage, followed by discussions on the main factors contributing to early marriage, the role of families and society, ways to prevent early marriages, and the rights of young people. Participants’ questions were addressed at the end.
