An event entitled “Outstanding Western Azerbaijanis” was held at Azerbaijan University by the “Silk Way – Support for Globalization” Public Union. Within the project entitled “Outstanding Western Azerbaijanis: Iravan is the Temple of Science, Education and Culture” implemented with the financial support of the Agency for State Support to NGOs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, was demonstrated a video film of the same name, as well as the website and the book were presented at the event.

Opening the event, head of the Political Sciences Department of Azerbaijan University, associate prof. Elvin Talyshinski spoke about importance of the project. Then the chairman of the “Silk Way – Support for Globalization” Public Union, the Project manager, associate prof. Adalat Asadov informed about the work done within the Project. The chairman noted that the aim of the Project is to inform the public about the historical realities of Western Azerbaijan and to introduce its outstanding personalities. Head of the Finance and Economics Department, associate prof. Nariman Boyukkishi spoke about the displacement of West Azerbaijanis from their historically native lands. Later, the expert of the project, Ravan Jafarli, presented the www.westaz.az website, which was created within the Project, in order to introduce outstanding personalities of West Azerbaijan.

At the end, a video about the historical truths of Western Azerbaijan prepared within the Project was shown and the book was distributed to participants.

The event was attended by academic staff and students of the University.
