Commemorative event dedicated to the 31st anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was held at Azerbaijan University. Memory of the genocide victims was commemorated with a minute of silence and the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played at the event attended by university management, academic staff and students.

It was noted at the event that the Khojaly genocide is inscribed as a black spot in history of not only the Azerbaijani people, but also humanity. In order to avoid such tragedies in the future, the Azerbaijani state is carrying out purposeful and consistent work on international recognition of the Khojaly genocide, great importance is attached to organization of memorial ceremonies. 

At the event, facts related to terrible cruelty of genocide were brought to the attention of audience, information was provided on the results of international awareness campaign “Justice for Khojaly”, launched in 2008 on the initiative of Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. It was noted that the heroic Azerbaijani army under leadership of victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, having won the 44-day Patriotic War, avenged the Khojaly genocide and the blood of our martyrs. 

Documentary film based on interviews with living witnesses of the Khojaly genocide was demonstrated at the end of the event.
