Azerbaijan University held the next event as a part of the “Year of Solidarity for the sake of a Green World”. The event, titled “Small steps, big impact for our greener fututre” was organized by the Department of Foreign Languages. In her opening remarks, head of the Department of Foreign Languages, Aygun Gasimova, emphasized Azerbaijan's role as a reliable member of the international community in combating the effects of climate change. She noted that, in accordance with the decree of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, 2024 has been declared the “Year of Solidarity for the sake of a Green World" in the country and Azerbaijan hosted such a global international event as COP29 in November. Head of the Department highlighted that one of Azerbaijan's five national priorities for socio-economic development until 2030 is defined as becoming a “Country of clean environment and green growth”. A variety of initiatives are being undertaken to align with this priority. 

Aysel Mehdiyeva, a faculty member of the Department of Foreign Languages, briefed students on the importance of environmental protection and ensuring ecological safety. 

Following the speeches, students from various English-medium specializations at the University delivered presentations on the topics such as COP29, climate change, the causes and solutions to global warming, environmental protection, and water scarcity. They also showcased their projects addressing global climate challenges. 

Participants at the event were presented with models demonstrating the functionality of solar systems, water purification processes on devices, drawings related to environmental themes, and handcrafted items prepared by students.

It should be noted that the event was organized in line with Azerbaijan University's action plan for the “Year of Solidarity for the sake of a Green World” and COP29, following the decree issued by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on December 25, 2023.
