A Student Conference on Ecotourism was Held at Azerbaijan University

A Republican Scientific Conference ‘Green Tourism: New Opportunities, New Trends’ was held for master’s degree holders and students at Azerbaijan University. The event, focused on relevant topics of the development of green economy and ecotourism in the country, was divided into two sections. Nearly 60 abstracts were accepted for the conference from higher education institutions providing tourism education, including Azerbaijan University, Azerbaijan Tourism and Management University, Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Baku State University, Azerbaijan Technical University, Khazar University, and Sumgayit State University.

At the opening ceremony, the Vice-Rector of Azerbaijan University for Scientific Affairs, Yusif Gasimov, delivered a welcoming speech. The Vice-Rector greeted the participants on behalf of the Rector, Saadat Aliyeva, stressing the importance of the conference in involving students in scientific research and unleashing their scientific potential.

A guest speaker at the event, an expert from the Industry Development Department of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board at the State Tourism Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Gunay Huseynova, focused on the success of the country's tourism industry.

The head of the Finance and Accounting Department of Azerbaijan University, Nariman Boyukkishi, and a lecturer in tourism disciplines, Gahraman Yusupov, provided information on the preparation for the event, the presentations provided, and their selection.

In their speeches, the Head of the Hotel and Restaurant Business Department at Azerbaijan Tourism and Management University, Professor Novruz Guliyev, the Head of the Public Administration and Social Innovations Department at Azerbaijan State Economic University, Associate Professor Elshan Mammadov, and the Dean of the Economics and Management Department at Khazar University, Professor Jeyhun Mammadov, highlighted the conference as a significant platform for discussions on various aspects of the current topic. They discussed issues such as the diversification of the economy, efficient use of tourism resources, the relationship between tourism and service industries and other economy sectors, green economy and green tourism concepts, as well as Azerbaijan's energy policy priorities, green energy potential, and goals in this field. They also reminded that 2024 was declared the Green World Solidarity Year in Azerbaijan by the order of Mr. President Ilham Aliyev, and informed of the work done to create green energy zones in the liberated territories of Karabakh and East Zangazur.

The opening ceremony ended with a presentation on the Relationship between Green World and Green Tourism by Madina Mammadova, a fourth-year student majoring in Tourism Business Organization at the Faculty of Business and Economics of Azerbaijan University.

Following the opening, the conference continued with the presentation of abstracts and their discussions.

It should be noted that the conference, arranged by the Student Scientific Society of Azerbaijan University, was aimed at engaging students studying at various universities across Azerbaijan in scientific research, developing their research skills, deepening and broadening their professional knowledge, and enhancing their public speaking skills.
