Practical class for Azerbaijan University students conducted in museums
A practical class was organized for master's students of Azerbaijan University specializing in “Modern and contemporary history of Azerbaijan” and “Ancient and medieval history of Azerbaijan” at the Museum of Victims of Political Repressions, the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, and the House-Museum of Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev. The practical session was held as part of the course “The struggle against the soviet occupation regime”, taught by senior lecturer of the Department of Political and Social Sciences, PhD. in History Sabina Mammadli, and tailored to the students’ academic qualifications.
At the Museum of Victims of Political Repressions, students were provided with extensive information on the repressive policies of the USSR, state officials, intellectuals, military personnel, figures of Azerbaijani literature who fell victim to repression, and the tragic fate of youth sent abroad for education during the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic era, the important documents related to the repressions. It was noted that the Museum's building once housed key soviet repressive agencies, including the Emergency Commission, the People’s Commissariat of Internal Affairs, and the State Security Committee. The basement contained storage cells, interrogation rooms, and execution sites for those sentenced to death.
At the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, students explored exhibits from various historical periods and visited the House-Museum of Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev.
Continuing the practical sessions under Sabina Mammadli’s guidance, students visited the medieval monument of the Shirvanshah Palace. Here, they were briefed on the Palace’s key monuments, structures, and exhibits that reflect its life and culture. Discussions included the Bayil stones, which feature various images and inscriptions in Persian and Arabic.
The practical class concluded with a visit to the Museum of Miniature Books, located in Icherisheher.
