Azerbaijan University hosted an event dedicated to State Sovereignty Day
As part of the “Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty”, Azerbaijan University held an event on September 20 dedicated to State Sovereignty Day. The event began with the performance of the National Anthem and a moment of silence in memory of the martyrs who gave their lives for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
Opening the event, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs Yusif Gasimov spoke about the essence and historical significance of State Sovereignty Day, which was established by a decree of President Ilham Aliyev one year ago. He emphasized that sovereignty represents the practical realization of independence. Vice-Rector highlighted that as a result of the local anti-terrorism operation conducted on 19–20 September 2023, lasting just 23 hours and 43 minutes, the remaining armed forces of Armenia in the region were fully disarmed and withdrawn from Azerbaijani territory, and the remnants of the so-called regime announced their dissolution. By fully restoring its state sovereignty and constitutional order across its internationally recognized territory, Azerbaijan now exercises control over all its borders and every point of its sovereign land. The declaration of 2025 as the “Year of the Constitution and Sovereignty” by presidential decree is a logical continuation of this historic process.
Following this, Natig Hasanov, PhD in Law and lecturer at the Department of Political and Social Sciences, delivered a presentation on “Constitution and Sovereignty”. In his speech, he clarified key concepts such as the nature and characteristics of sovereignty, its classical definition, and the system of sovereign states, underscored that the constitution and sovereignty are inseparable values in the modern state-building of Azerbaijan.
Speaking on behalf of the students, Solmaz Ilyaszada, Chair of the Student Scientific Society of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, addressed the audience on the topic “Youth and Sovereignty”.
