Modernization of master\'s programs in Philology was discussed

A meeting dedicated to the modernization and adaptation of Master's programs in Philology to modern standards was held by the Department of Translation and Philology at Azerbaijan University. The event brought together advisor to the rector and director of the International Center for Master’s and Doctoral Studies, PhD in History, assoc. prof. Nushaba Guliyeva; deputy dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Gunay Ismayilova; head of the Department of Translation and Philology, PhD in Philology Gulnar Rzayeva; academic staff of the Department, including PhD in Philology and professors Azad Mammadov and Asif Hajiyev; prof. of Slavic Literature at Baku Slavic University, Doctor of Philology Telman Jafarov; PhD in Philology, assoc. prof. Galib Sailov; and instructor in English Phonetics Department at Azerbaijan University of Languages, and Azerbaijan University alumna, Ulviyya Zeynalova.

Advisor to the rector Nushaba Guliyeva, opening the meeting, emphasized that in the upcoming period, master’s programs are expected to be updated in accordance with international standards, a student-centered approach, and labor market requirements. She noted that this initiative is being implemented under the guidance of the Ministry of Science and Education, and a dedicated working group has been established at Azerbaijan University.

Following this, the head of the Department of Azerbaijan University Gulnar Rzayeva shared her insights and suggestions for improving the programs. She emphasized that the relevance and competitiveness of master’s curricula must be aligned with the demands of the job market, making the active involvement of industry representatives crucial in this process.

Labor market representatives Telman Jafarov, Galib Sailov and Ulviyya Zeynalova, who joined the discussions, contributed valuable and practical recommendations based on their respective fields.

During the discussion-driven meeting, proposals concerning the structure and content of the programs were reviewed, and initial agreements were reached on the direction of future updates.
