An event dedicated to October 18 - Day of Restoration of Independence was held at Azerbaijan University

An event dedicated to October 18 - Day of Restoration of Independence was organized by the Department of Political and Social Sciences at Azerbaijan University. The event began with an opening speech by the Head of the Department, PhD in Political Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Elvin Talyshinski, following the performance of the national anthem and a moment of silence in honor of the martyrs. 

In his speech, the Department Head noted that independence is an invaluable blessing and highlighted that with the adoption of the Constitutional Act on State Independence on October 18, 1991, following four days of intense discussions at the extraordinary session of the Supreme Council, a new era began in Azerbaijan's history. Elvin Talyshinski spoke about the work undertaken to restore, preserve, and elevate Azerbaijan's independence to its current level. 

Then, attendees heard reports from Sabina Mammadli, PhD in History and lecturer in the Department of Political and Social Sciences, on “The Path to Reviving Statehood Traditions”, and from Arif Alizade, PhD in History and department lecturer, on “The National Liberation Movement in Azerbaijan in the 1980s and 1990s”. The reports emphasized that Azerbaijan's statehood traditions have ancient roots and examined the stages of the national liberation movement of the Azerbaijani people. It was stressed that eternal, irreversible, and unwavering independence would be possible thanks to thinking brains, intelligent and educated young people. 

Dean of the Faculty of Information and Communication Technologies, Asif Pashayev, spoke about the role of the former Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in awakening national consciousness and strengthening national self-awareness, and he congratulated the event participants on this historic day.
