Professor Eric Chui to deliver keynote at the Social Work & Social Research Conference

Preparations are underway for the 2nd International Conference “Social Work & Social Research”, which will be held on May 23-25, 2025, jointly organized by Azerbaijan University, the Center for Social Research, Fırat University (Turkey), and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University (Turkey).

The aim of the conference, hosted by Azerbaijan University, is to bring together scholars and practitioners in the fields of social work and social policy to discuss current challenges, share experiences, and explore innovative technologies and practices aimed at improving the social and psychological well-being of diverse population groups.

Eric Chui, professor of the Department of Social Work and Criminology and head of the Department of Applied Social Sciences at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University will deliver a report on “Humanistic learning in a digital world: Innovations in social work education & practice for a sustainable future” at the plenary session of the conference. Professor Chui holds an H-index of 40. His research interests include youth studies, social work, criminology, and criminal justice issues.

Another prominent speaker at the conference will be Elif Gökçearslan, Director of the Centre for Labour and Social Security Training and Research at the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, with an H-index of 17. She is the author of numerous scientific articles, monographs, and books on topics such as social work, psychosocial support after workplace accidents, forensic interviews with children, community-based practices for persons with disabilities, empowerment of social workers, and child protection practices.

It should be noted that the first edition of the conference was held in a hybrid format on November 24-25, 2023. It featured 156 paper submissions from 32 countries, and researchers and professionals from nearly 40 countries participated in the thematic sessions, contributing to a rich and diverse academic exchange on qualifications and practices in social work at the international level.
