A meeting dedicated to the discussion of undergraduate educational programs in Marketing and Business Management specialities was organized at the initiative of the Faculty of Business and Economics and organized by the Department of Economics and Management at Azerbaijan University.

The event brought together Elshan Panahov, Director of Global Oilfield and Mining Supply Co Ltd; Nahid Almasov, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics; Sakina Nadirova, Quality Assurance Department Specialist; Tural Gojayev, Head of the Department of Economics and Management; members of the Department’s academic staff; and alumni Laman Guliyeva and Ismayil Huseynzada. Participants shared their ideas and proposals regarding the structure and content of the programs as well as directions for their further development.

The primary aim of the event was to support the renewal of existing educational programs in line with the demands of the modern labor market, technological advancements, and international standards of higher education. Particular emphasis was placed on strengthening the practical component of the curriculum and enhancing program outcomes.

During the discussions, it was stressed that the rapid transformation of the labor market and technological challenges require adapting academic programs to contemporary realities. In this regard, the modernization of curricula to meet the needs of the real sector and to expand practice-oriented components aimed at developing students’ practical skills was identified as a top priority.

Elshan Panahov, representing the labor market, particularly emphasized the importance of English language proficiency and the effective use of information technologies for modern specialists. He noted that higher education should not be limited to theoretical knowledge alone, and announced that practical training sessions designed to strengthen students’ professional skills would be integrated gradually and conducted in parallel with regular classes throughout the academic term.

Participants also proposed that certain outdated disciplines should either be removed or revised. In particular, the inclusion of modern disciplines such as Digital Marketing, Sustainable Business Strategies, and Startup Management was underlined as essential. The functional distribution of courses across semesters was reviewed, and more coherent sequencing options were discussed.

Another key point of discussion was the alignment between learning outcomes and program outcomes. In this regard, it was recommended to develop an updated and more targeted results database.

The meeting concluded with meaningful and productive discussions aimed at fostering mutually beneficial collaboration, enhancing the quality of teaching, and developing practical competencies in students.
