A business meeting aimed at improving academic programs in relevant specialities was held at the Planet Travel Agency, organized by the Faculty of Business and Economics of Azerbaijan University. The meeting focused on the self-assessment discussion of the undergraduate program in Tourism Business Management.

Participants included Zohrab Mammadov, Chairman of Planet Travel Agency; Tamkin Mammadov, a staff member at the Agency; Nahid Almasov, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics at Azerbaijan University; and Nariman Boyukkishi, Head of the Department of Finance and Accounting.

During the discussions, Zohrab Mammadov emphasized the growing difficulty of finding professionals in the tourism industry who are both competent and consistent in their performance. He noted that the nonstandard and demanding work schedule typical of the tourism sector often deters young specialists. Success in this field requires tourism specialists to be capable of making quick decisions and responding flexibly at any time, which can present significant challenges.

Zohrab Mammadov further highlighted that practical skills, foreign language proficiency, ethical conduct, and effective communication are just as critical as theoretical knowledge for building a successful career in tourism. However, the current landscape indicates that these skills are often insufficiently developed.

Special attention was also given to digital competencies. It was noted that modern tourism operations, including booking, itinerary planning, and package creation are now largely conducted via technological platforms. Therefore, students must be trained in the use of global reservation systems such as AMADEUS, GALILEO, SABRE, and WORLDSPAN, as well as programs like MASTER TUR, SAMO-TUR, and TURWIN MULTIPRO.

The meeting concluded by emphasizing the need to update the content of core and elective courses within the Tourism Business Management program to reflect current labor market demands. Enhancing practical training, expanding digital literacy, and integrating specialized software into the educational process were identified as key priorities.

Additionally, the inclusion of Educational Tourism as an elective course was discussed. The meeting served as a productive platform for fostering further collaboration and the development of joint initiatives.
