The group attended a roundtable discussion titled “COP29 - Green Strategy, Climate Change, and Social Sciences: Challenges and Tasks.” The event was jointly organized by the Center for Social Research and the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences.

At the roundtable, presentations were given by Zahid Oruj, Chairman of the Human Rights Committee of the Milli Majlis and Chairman of the Board of the Center for Social Research; Sadig Gurbanov, Chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee on Natural Resources, Energy, and Ecology; Ilham Mammadzada, Director of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the National Academy of Sciences; MP Parvana Valiyeva, member of the COP29 Organizing Committee, Executive Director of the Public Union “Health Service”. The speeches emphasized that human factors are one of the main drivers of climate change. Due to anthropogenic and technological activities, there has been a disruption in the natural harmony of the environment, affecting its elements, natural resources, biosphere, ecosystems, flora, and fauna. In this regard, the interaction of social sciences and the organization of joint research may have a significant impact on finding solutions to the global climate crisis.

The speeches also touched upon a number of important issues related to COP29, civil society, human rights and the environment. The tasks and contributions of the social sciences to identify research paths in resolving the climate crisis, green strategy and climate change management were also discussed.

It should be noted that the event was attended by Samir Gumbatov, a faculty member from Azerbaijan University’s Department of Political and Social Sciences, as well as second-year students majoring in Political Science and third-year students specializing in Regional Studies (European countries).
