A round table discussion dedicated to "June 15 - National Liberation Day" was held at Azerbaijan University. At the event organized by the Department of Social Sciences, information was presented about the merits of national leader Heydar Aliyev in the process of preserving the state independence of Azerbaijan and building national statehood.

The national anthem was played at the event, the speeches of Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs Yusif Gasimov and Professor of the Department of Social Sciences Gabil Aliyev were heard.

The speech of Vice-Rector Yusif Gasimov was devoted to the topic “The first years of restoration of the state independence of Azerbaijan: challenging international and domestic conditions”. Yusif Gasimov noted that national leader Heydar Aliyev, by the will of the people, returned to the leadership of the country in a hard and challenging period of Azerbaijan. On June 15, 1993, a new beginning was laid that determined the future of the Azerbaijani state and people.

Professor of the Department of Social Sciences Gabil Aliyev made a speech on “Liberation Day is the national leader Heydar Aliyev's saving Azerbaijan from the danger of civil war”. Gabil Aliyev stressed that the Azerbaijani people, who remained in the face of fateful issues, relied on the national leader and preserved their national statehood and independence, which were in danger. With the successful continuation by President Ilham Aliyev of the political course that founded 30 years ago, the Azerbaijani state is experiencing the strongest and most powerful period in its history today.

After the speeches, Nigar Aslanli, an employee of the Department of Azerbaijani Language and Literature, recited Tofig Bayram's poem “When you say Azerbaijan”. The event ended with a speech by Gunel Gurbanova, a first-year student in Azerbaijan's new and newest history major, on the topic “National leader Heydar Aliyev's services in strengthening the independent statehood of Azerbaijan”.
