Commemorative event dedicated to “September 27 – the Memorial Day” was held at Azerbaijan University. At the event organized by the Department of Social Sciences, the memory of the martyrs who gave their lives for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan was commemorated with a minute of silence and the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was sounded.

At the event, speeches were heard by Elvin Talishinski, head of the Political Sciences Department, PhD in Political Sciences, Abbas Gurbanov, the lecturer of the Department, PhD in history, and Rasul Dadashov, the chairman of the Student Youth Organization of the University.

The speeches mentioned that 3 years ago, in the early morning, the Azerbaijani people began its Patriotic War with the order of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev to start a counter-offensive operation along the entire front in response to the next provocation of Armenia. Opening a new page in the history of not only Azerbaijan, but also the region, the date of September 27, 2020 marks beginning of the way to the great victory. It has been pointed out by the facts that the brave soldiers and military officers of Azerbaijan, the people of Azerbaijan, united like a fist around President Ilham Aliyev and ended the 30-year occupation in just 44 days. Our soldiers and military officers on the battlefield, our people on the rear front, and the Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev in the field of diplomacy and politics have shown great perseverance, unity, will and determination. The Mr. President's words “No one can stop us. Because we are on the right path” raised the spirit of each of us.

It was emphasized in the speeches that we have thousands of martyrs who lost their lives in the battles for the restoration of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. Martyrdom stands at the highest peak in Islam. It is no coincidence that the restoration of religious monuments and mosques, which are the national wealth of the Azerbaijani people, was prioritized in the reconstruction and restoration work started immediately in the territories liberated from the Armenian occupation. The Azerbaijani people and the state of Azerbaijan are proud of their veterans, always honor the memory of its martyrs.

A video depicting important events of the 44-day Patriotic War was demonstrated at the event. Students of the Faculty of Humanities Solmaz Ilyaszade and Gunel Humbatova presented a literary and artistic composition.
