Seminar on “Green economy” was held at Azerbaijan University
A scientific-practical seminar on “Green economy and its development prospects” was held at Azerbaijan University jointly organized by the Departments of Finance and Accounting and the Department of Economics and Management. It was noted at the event that by the relevant decree of President Ilham Aliyev, the year 2024 was declared in Azerbaijan as the “Year of Solidarity for the Sake of the Green World”. On the other hand, the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 29) to the UNFCCC will be held in November this year in Azerbaijan. The processes taking place in the world, including environmental problems and the consequences caused by climate change, will be discussed on this authoritative platform. Holding the COP29 event in Azerbaijan also imposes an important obligation on higher education institutions so the seminar was organized based on this responsibility.
The reports by Head of Finance and Accounting department, Associate Professor Nariman Boyukkishi on “Economic mechanism and conditions of transition to a green economy”, Head of the Department of Economics and Management Tural Gojayev on “The concept of sustainable development and the need to evaluate it at the level of national wealth” and associate professor of the Department Aliaga Ismayilzade on “Economic problems and development prospects of the green economy” were heard at the event.
The reports provided information on the emergence of the term “green economy” and its introduction into scientific use, the concept of “green economy”, the necessary reasons for the transition to a green economy, the tasks, principles, directions, problems and perspectives of the green economy, as well as the relevant initiatives and challenges, including the situation in Azerbaijan regarding the formation of a green economy, were analyzed. It has been noted that achieving sustainable development is one of the main problems of concern to the world at present. This makes it urgent to discuss issues related to the transition to a ”green economy”.
The scientific-practical seminar continued with discussions around the reports.
