Scientific report meeting of Azerbaijan University was held:  the H-index reached 24

The report meeting was held on the results of the scientific activities of Azerbaijan University for 2022. The scientific report was presented by Latifa Agamaliyeva, PhD in mathematics, head of the University Science Department. The report covered such topics as scientific events held at the University, reports of international and republican conferences, activities of the Silk Way scientific magazine, international scientific cooperation, and published scientific papers.

The report noted that the ending year 2022 was very productive in terms of scientific activity and was marked by several significant events in the scientific life of  Azerbaijan University. Thus, the Scimago Institutions Rankings report of Elsevier's Scopus database for 2022 has been announced. According to this report, Azerbaijan University has made great strides in scientific research activity and entered the world ranking. Azerbaijan University, ranked 2nd in the list of only four higher education institutions in the country, entered the Q1 category, which is the highest category of this ranking.

The report also noted that 2 international and 1 national level scientific conferences were held at the Azerbaijan University in the reporting year. Materials from all conferences were published as a collection and presented to participants of the conference.

More than 130 reports representing all higher academic and research institutions and formations of the Republic were heard at the 5th Republican Scientific Conference of young researchers held on April 15, 2022. The conference, organized online in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic, returned to its traditional format after a 2-year hiatus.

Plenary speakers of the international conference “Ethnogenesis and the issue of national identity of the Azerbaijani people”, held on October 28, 2022, were full members of ANAS, academicians Yagub Mahmudov and Nizami Jafarov.  At the conference, the ethnogenesis of the Azerbaijani people was analyzed from such aspects as history, language, and culture. 

The International Conference “Information Security: Problems and Prospects” was organized on November 25, 2022, in a hybrid mode jointly with the Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics (Ukraine) and the Military Institute named after Heydar Aliyev. The conference became a platform for scientists and engineers working in the field of information security to share their latest scientific results and discuss new scientific ideas and directions. 

Azerbaijan University's scientific magazine Silk Way was registered in the Index Copernicus database in 2022. In 2022, 4 issues of the magazine were published. The second issue of the scientific magazine is dedicated to the “140th anniversary of the Irevan Teachers' Seminary”, and the third one is dedicated to the “Year of Shusha”. The second issue published an article by the head of the Social Sciences Department, Prof. Gabil Aliyev titled “Iravan Teachers' Seminary, an important educational center of Western Azerbaijan”.

Two special editions were also mentioned in the report. The article by Prof. Gabil Aliyev, the head of the Social Sciences Department of Azerbaijan University, titled “Karabakh Railways” was published in the 51st issue of the ICS Heritage magazine for 2022. IRS Heritage magazine is an authoritative publication published in 18 languages and published in more than 65 countries around the world. 

An article by the staff of Azerbaijan University Tunzala Verdiyeva, Aygun Muradli, and Nargiz Huseynova entitled “Impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the well - being of children with disabilities and their parents in Azerbaijan” is included in the book published by Springer, one of the world's authoritative scientific publishers. The project was implemented by the Sorbonne University of France.

In the reporting year, the University staff conducted joint scientific research works with the staff of higher educational institutions such as University of Tuscia (Italy), Ton Duc Thang University (Vietnam), University of South Africa (Republic of South Africa), University of Tabriz (Iran), University of Victoria (Canada), UNNE, FaCENA (Argentina), China Agricultural University (China), Abdul Wali Khan University (Pakistan), Prince of Songkla University (Thailand), School of Basic and Applied Sciences (India), Aligarh Muslim University (India), Alexandria University (Egypt), Firat University (Turkey) and published joint scientific articles as a result. 

Cooperation meetings were held between Azerbaijan University and Washington University in St. Louis (USA) during the year. At the meetings, discussions were held on the preparation of a joint grant project with Washington University in St. Louis. 

Azerbaijan University was a co-organizer of the 2nd International “Artemis” Congress on Life, Social, Health, and Sports Sciences held in Izmir, Turkey on September 10-12, 2022. Four employees of the University made a report at the Conference. 

Azerbaijan University is a co-organizer of the 7th International Conference on “Computational Mathematics and Engineering Sciences – CMES-2023” which will be held on May 20-21, 2023 at Turkey's Firat University. Rector Saadat Aliyeva and vice-rector for Scientific Affairs Yusif Gasimov are represented in the honorary and organizing committees of this international event.

Azerbaijan University is also the co-organizer of the International Congress on “Humanities and Social Sciences in a Changing World” to be held in Izmir, Turkey on January 7-9, 2023. Head of the Social Sciences Department, Prof. Gabil Aliyev will deliver a plenary report on “Restoration of historical monuments in the city of Shusha”. 

The report also provided information on monographs, textbooks, and study guides published in the reporting year. It was noted that during the reporting year, the university staff published 44 articles in scientific magazines published in Azerbaijan, 106 articles in scientific magazines published abroad, and 97 articles in indexed magazines. Of these, 40 articles were published in magazines with the highest Q1 category, 27 articles with Q2 category, 10 articles with Q3 category, 1 article with Q4 category, 15 articles with ESCI category, and 4 articles in magazines in the Scopus database. It was noted that 16 papers were published in the republic, and 56 papers were published abroad. The number of monographs is 2, the number of books and study guides is 9, and the number of programs and methodical aids is 37. 

Articles published by members of Azerbaijan University in indexed magazines were cited in indexed journals 1,285 times in 2022. As a result of all this, the H-Index of the University, determined according to the Web of Science database of the Clavirate Analytics agency, increased to 24 in 2022. 

At the reporting meeting, the score table compiled for assessment of scientific activity on the departments and names of the departments that received the most points according to the system of assessment of scientific-research activity applied at University were also announced. It was also noted that authors of articles published in indexed journals were awarded according to the order of Azerbaijan University Rector dated February 05, 2018 “On encouraging colleagues to participate in scientific research”.

Dr. of Mathematics Yusif Gasimov, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs of the University, evaluated the results of the scientific research works at the meeting. Nushaba Guliyeva, Rector's Advisor, Director of the Center for International Graduate and Doctoral Studies, informed about the training of scientific staff, congratulated the University members on the occasion of December 31 – Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis, and conveyed her good wishes for the coming year 2023.

At the end of the event, discussions were held around the report, questions were answered, and proposals were heard.
