The Empathy Club celebrated the “International Day of Persons with Disabilities”

The Empathy Club, operating under the Social Work Organization Department of Azerbaijan University, held an event called “Obstacles are to be overcome!” dedicated to the “December 3 is International Day of Persons with Disabilities”. Opening the event, Dean of the Humanities Faculty Safar Mammadov informed about the history and essence of the day and said that it is traditionally held annually. 

Event was moderated by the Chairman of club and Mahammad Alakbarov, fourth year student majoring in Social Work. He spoke about the barriers faced by persons with disabilities in society and the steps that must be taken to overcome them.   

Then, Tunzala Verdiyeva, Head of the Social Work Organization Department, spoke and emphasized the invaluable role of social workers and social work specialty in the social and professional development of persons with disabilities. Guest of the event, head of the Translation and Philology Department Samira Mammadova invited students to become a part of an inclusive society. Lecturers of the Social Work Organization Department, Sabina Khalilova spoke about the “medical and social approach” to persons with disabilities, while Nigar Shahhuseynbayova noted the importance of organizing motivational trainings for persons with disabilities. At the end of the event, Khayala Abdullayeva, a second-year student in the specialty of socio-psychological service in education, motivator, spoke about attention and care of the state to persons with disabilities, shared her success story with participants of the event.
