An event on “Integration of Probation and Public Health Policy” was held for students
In connection with the implementation of tasks arising from the memorandum of cooperation signed between the Probation Service of the Ministry of Justice and Azerbaijan University, a meeting on the topic “Integration of Probation and Public Health Policy” was held for second-year students of the “Social Work” specialty. The meeting was organized within the course “Theories of Healthy Behavior” on the initiative of lecturer Zahra Mammadli. The guests of the event, which was also attended by the Head of the Department Nigar Shakhhuseynbayova, were the executive officers of the Probation Service Ramil Mustafayev and Aysel Garibova.
Ramil Mustafayev spoke to the students about the history and significance of the probation service in the world and in Azerbaijan, and also explained whether probation is a form of punishment or a correctional system. In his speech, he analyzed the topic “Why is probation needed?” from the perspective of public health, and also presented to the participants a broad overview of monitoring in the probation system. Aysel Garibova introduced the students to the concept of risk factors and recidivism, as well as the work carried out by the Probation Service.
The initiator of the meeting and lecturer of the course, Zahra Mammadli, spoke about the health profile of individuals in the probation system, the ongoing socio-psychological work carried out and its importance, and also presented case studies on the topic. She also noted that the positive changes created by social workers and psychologists in the probation service can serve as a useful example for other public and non-government sectors.
At the event, the Head of the Department of Social Work Organization, Nigar Shakhhuseynbayova, also spoke, emphasizing the important role of the probation service for society and the strategic significance of the cooperation established with the University.
Since the meeting coincided with an open class of the master’s student Hajibala Heydarov, the student was given the opportunity to present his research on probation issues. Hajibala Heydarov delivered a presentation on the importance of the probation service and the contribution of social work in this field.
