Rector of Azerbaijan University, PhD in Philology Saadat Aliyeva attended the traditional “Burns Night” organized by the British Embassy in Azerbaijan. The event, attended by both international guests and prominent representatives of Azerbaijan’s intellectual community, was dedicated to the Scottish-born poet and classic of British poetry Robert Burns. The Rector’s participation in the event was by invitation from the Embassy.

During the event, a presentation was made of the book by Rector Saadat Aliyeva, PhD in Philology, and Doctor of Philology, Prof. Shahin Khalilli, titled “Robert Burns: a world woven with poetry, song bridge and words”. The book, with a preface by Professor Nigel Lisk from the University of Glasgow, presents literary essays on the life and work of the poet, translations of some of his poems and songs from the original, as well as insights and commentaries by political figures, poets, and writers about Burns. The book also highlights official documents, historical works, and creative examples of Azerbaijan-Scottish relations in the context of Burns' work.

It is noteworthy that the birthday of Robert Burns is celebrated with great enthusiasm annually in many countries around the world.
