Four Books by the Staff of the Department of Political and Social Sciences have been Published
The textbooks by the staff of the Department of Political and Social Sciences of Azerbaijan University, including Elvin Talyshinski, Sabina Mammadli, Abbas Gurbanov, and Rana Asadova, have been released.
The textbook “Explanatory Dictionary of terms used in the field of international relations” by Head of the Department of Political and Social Sciences, PhD in Political Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Elvin Talyshinski consists of two parts. The first part contains information on 500 terms and their explanations, while the second part covers 100 international and regional organizations. The dictionary serves as a reference textbook that reflects the key terminology used in the field of international relations and the classification of prominent international organizations operating on the global stage. The terms are arranged alphabetically and accompanied by scientific and political-legal definitions. The materials can be used in the teaching and study of subjects such as Theory of State and Law, Constitutional Law, International Law, Political Science, Diplomatic Etiquette, Political History, and more.
The monograph by Sabina Mamedli, a lecturer at the Department of Political and Social Sciences, PhD in History, titled “The Shamakhi genocide of 1918 in the documents of the Extraordinary Investigative Commission”, is intended for a wide readership. The monograph examines the mass genocide committed against the Turkish-Muslim population in the villages of Shamakhi city and the Shamakhi uyezd between March and July 1918, carried out as part of a deliberate plan orchestrated by Stepan Shaumyan, Chairman of the Baku Soviet of People's Commissars, the physical and psychological violence inflicted on the population, the sequence of events, specific details, as well as the success of the discrediting campaign aimed at Azerbaijan in Europe and America, were studied for the first time on the basis of the documents of the Extraordinary Investigation Commission.
The textbook by Abbas Gurbanov, a lecturer at the Department of Political and Social Sciences, PhD in History, titled “History of Islamic Culture”, discusses Islamic culture and its historical traces that have influenced world culture and human thinking, as well as the values and institutions formed by the Islamic religion over centuries. The textbook is intended for students studying theology, history, philosophy, international relations, and area studies, as well as for researchers.
The textbook by Rana Asadova, a lecturer at the Department of Political and Social Sciences, titled “The First World War and the economy of Azerbaijan: theories, historiography, and source studies”, briefly covers theoretical issues such as the nature of war, the causes of war, goals and objectives in war, types of war, and the concept of a World War. It examines the impact of World War I on the economy within the Russian Empire, including on the socio-economic life of Azerbaijan. The work critically discusses historiographical studies on the issue published during the Soviet era and in the years of independence, with special attention given to analyzing key sources on the topic.
