Azerbaijan University hosted a meeting between students and Patriotic War veterans

The Student Youth Organization (SYO) of Azerbaijan University organized an event titled “The Road to Victory”, dedicated to honoring the memory of the soldiers and officers who sacrificed their lives for the independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, as well as to introduce students to veterans of the Patriotic War. The event was held on September 27, the Remembrance Day.

The event began with the National Anthem and a moment of silence in memory of the martyrs. Among the participants were Patriotic War veterans Amil Abilov, Jumshud Huseynov, Khanlar Mammadaliyev, and Shirin Aliyev. As well as family members of Azerbaijan University alumnus and fallen hero Fakhraddin Gurbanli, faculty members, and SYO activists.

Opening remarks were delivered by Assoc. Prof. Safar Mammadov, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences; Assoc. Prof. Elvin Talyshinski, Head of the Department of Political and Social Sciences; and Huseyn Rustamli, acting chair of the Student Youth Organization. In their speeches, they reflected on the decisive moments of the 44-day Patriotic War, the significance of the establishment of the Remembrance Day, and the unity and solidarity demonstrated by the Azerbaijani people during the war.

The event continued with a panel discussion featuring Patriotic War veterans Amil Abilov, Jumshud Huseynov, Khanlar Mammadaliyev, and Shirin Aliyev. During the panel discussion, the veterans shared their personal recollections and spoke about the 44-day Patriotic War, in which the Azerbaijani Army achieved a remarkable victory under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Ilham Aliyev. They recounted their combat experiences and responded to numerous questions from students.

The event concluded with a speech by Afig Gurbanov, uncle of an alumnus of Azerbaijan University and fallen hero Fakhraddin Gurbanli, who emphasized that the Azerbaijani people proudly and respectfully honor the memory of their martyrs. He noted that remembrance events of this kind strengthen young people’s sense of patriotism and attachment to their homeland and expressed his gratitude to the organizers.
