The Department of Azerbaijani Language and Literature organized a round table on "January 20 - the peak of the people's struggle for freedom" dedicated to the 32nd anniversary of the bloody January 20 events, which played an important role in the life of the Azerbaijani people.

Opening the event, the head of the department Ulviya Rahimova said she witnessed the January 20 tragedy: “I was among the crowd going to bury the martyrs. Everyone was in the same mood that day ... Everyone was living in the same pain, and the crowd seemed to turn into one individual. The Golden Army, always considered a great savior and greeted with flowers, left its mark on a street full of bloody carnations. We had a cultural shock that day! Azerbaijan already understood who was who! Our mangled brains, who laid flowers at the graves of the executioners of the March genocide and added a series of poems in their honor, woke up! That was the victory we won that day! In Faulkner's words, it was the successful brain of a defeated nation! ”

Then the speeches of professors Gorkhmaz Guliyev and Asif Hajiyev were heard at the round table. Professor Gorkhmaz Guliyev noted that the tragedy of January 20 is not mourning, but the culmination and victory of the people's struggle for their freedom. Prof. Asif Hajiyev said that the tragedies played an important role in the self-awareness of every nation.

It was noted in the speeches that the traces of blood, tears, the first scene of the bloody night, the first echo of the January 20 tragedy were reflected in poetry, which is the most operative and emotional genre of literature. Our martyrs have not yet been buried. The poet's heartbreaking verses mingled with the people's sorrow, grief and mood. Mammad Aslan joined Cain with the poem "Mind, carnation, mind." This poem, written at the right time, raised the whole monument of the image of carnations created by Natava with her mother's cry. The poem "Martyrs" written by Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh for four months narrated the "January 20 tragedy". He immortalized in our literature the wide picture of the bloody tragedy that befell our people and nation.

In those difficult and bloody days, the tears flowing from the pen of Nabi Khazri, Jabir Novruz, Khalil Rza Uluturk, Mammad Araz, Sabir Rustamkhanli, Fikret Goja, Musa Yagub, Musa Alakbarli mourned our sorrows. People's poet Zalimkhan Yagub's and Nariman Hasanzadeh's poem "Alley of Martyrs" called on everyone to stand for a moment in the holy place - the Alley of Martyrs, to think and listen to the fate of the inhabitants of a world called "Alley of Martyrs".

January 20 has also become a leading topic in South Azerbaijani literature.
