A roundtable dedicated to the 30th anniversary of January 20 tragedy was held at Azerbaijan University. The event was attended by the teaching staff of the departments of Azerbaijani language and literature, Foreign Languages ​​and Social Work.

It was emphasized that the bloody events committed by Soviet troops in Azerbaijan 30 years ago were not only a tragedy but also went down in the history of Azerbaijan as a turning point in the restoration of independence and the struggle for freedom and territorial integrity.

Head of the Faculty of Humanities Safar Mammadov, Head of the Department of Azerbaijani language and literature Ulviyya Rahimova, Head of the Department of Foreign languages ​​Samira Mammadova, Head of the Department of Social work Tunzala Verdiyeva, professors Korkhmaz Guliyev and Asif Hajiyev, associate professors Fazila Zakirova and Farhad Madatov spoke about the essence, causes and consequences of  January 20 events. n the speeches, it was noted that as a result of the bloody crimes committed by the empire, Azerbaijan's brave sons and daughters reached the peak of martyrdom. Among them were students. The events of January 20 are a reaffirmation of the Azerbaijani people as a nation. This event hit the Soviet empire and accelerated the independence movement of Azerbaijan.

The event also touched upon the position of the local press and highlighted the importance of organizing the funeral of the martyrs without collisions between the people and the imperial army. It has been mentioned that a carnation symbolizing the blood turned into a mourning flower of the 20 January tragedy, which was previously an ornament of happy days.Despite all the difficulties and dangers, the funeral of the martyrs was commemorated according to respect their memory.

The participants of the event also shared their memories of the bloody events, noting that they have a great responsibility to ensure that the tragedy is not forgotten and the historical truths are passed on to the younger generations.

The roundtable was organized following the University's Action Plan on the 30th anniversary of the tragedy of  January 20.
