A national conference entitled “A look at higher education in Azerbaijan from an international point of view: problems and prospects” dedicated to the 96th anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev was held at Azerbaijan University.

The purpose of the conference is to provide a scientific platform for discussing the problems and prospects for the development of the higher education system in Azerbaijan facing new challenges. At first, the participants laid a wreath at the monument to national leader Heydar Aliyev in the university hall and honored his memory.

At the opening ceremony of the conference, Vice-Rector for scientific work of Azerbaijan University, prof. Yusif Gasimov, Deputy Director of the Institute of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan Anar Naghiyev, Head of the Department of Pedagogy of Baku State University, prof. Lazifa Gasimova having made a speech at the conference opening ceremony, stressed the importance of the topics discussed and wished success to the event. The plenary report of Professor Yusif Gasimov on the theme “Science-education-industry: contemporary challenges” was heard at the plenary meeting. Reminding the idea put forward by President Ilham Aliyev “to turn oil capital into human capital”, Yusif Gasimov emphasized that the way to create high-quality human capital is at a high level at all stages. He noted that the growth of the leading countries of the world will be possible with the ideal combination of educational, scientific and production factors, and spoke about the work being done in this direction in our country and in particular at Azerbaijan University.

After the break, the conference continued at the breakout sessions. The sections discussed the framework document of the curriculum on Azerbaijani education and the training of teachers, language identification from the aspect of science and educational cooperation, content reform in general education, regulation of the recruitment of teachers in educational institutions and other relevant issues.
