Campaign of support to the month of autism at Azerbaijan University

At Azerbaijan University was held a campaign of support and seminar of awareness dedicated to the month of autism awareness.
The event was opened with an opening remark by the head of the department of Organization of Social Affairs Aygun Musayeva who noted that April is marked as a Month of Autism Awareness and 2nd day of April as a Day of Autism Awareness. The purpose of the campaign is to increase awareness among people and draw attention to the problem.
The psychologist of ‘Birga and saghlam” (Altogether and healthy) Public Union made a presentation on “Needs of children and families with autism”. The presentation has included the statistics and diagnosis of autism, problems related to social relations, problems in behaviour, the factors that lead to autism spectrum, rehabilitation in autism and the methods that are used.
The guests of the university Aytan Zeynalova – the founder and director of “Birga and saghlam” Public Union and Zahra Khalafova – head of the Organization of United Aid for Azerbaijan and trainer who have children with autism syndrome gave information about “The children with autism and the problems their parents face”.
The I year students majoring in Social work have delivered the voices of the children with autism to the public in the flashmob they have presented.
The rector of the University Saadat Aliyeva expressed her thanks to the organizers and guests of the event. The rector mentioned about the necessity to enhance the rehabilitation of the children with autism and quality of life of their families. Saadat Aliyeva: “I express my sincere thanks to the mothers for their selfless labor as they have undertaken such a heavy responsibility as public awareness and integration of their children into society”.
In the event was displayed a short movie “My name is autism” and a video clip “I am different” dedicated to the children with autism by the honored artist Tunzala Aliyeva.
The event was completed with release of blue balloons into air by the university staff.
