“Chinese Day” a cultural event was held at Azerbaijan University. The conference organized by Confucius Institute at Baku State University, Confucius Center and Foreign Languages Department at Azerbaijan University was a brief presentation of the Chinese language, culture, traditions.

The Vice-Rector of Azerbaijan University, Professor Yusif Gasimov and the director of Confucius Institute Luo Xiaozhi participated in the opening ceremony. It was noted that the event provides the students with the opportunity of getting familiar with Chinese culture. China - as one of the oldest civilizations in the world and country of great discoveries, such as papermaking, velvet, compass. It has a large area and a mysterious nature. The Chinese language combines culture and art. One-fifth of the world’s population speaks in this language. The teaching of the Chinese language as the second foreign language at Azerbaijan University started to implement  since September 2018. Currently, 16 hours per week classes are taught in the groups.

The famous Chinese song “The Song in My Voice” was presented at the opening ceremony. The song was performed by Aytaj Ismayilova, a fourth-year-student in Translation Studies.

After the opening ceremony, the Chinese Paper-Cutting Art, Tea Ceremony, Calligraphy and culture items were portrayed and the game of picking peanuts up with the sticks was held. The winners were awarded various prizes.

“Chinese Day” cultural event  was  full of interesting moments.
