An event was held at Azerbaijan University dedicated to the Day of the National Flag. The Azerbaijani flag reflects the history of the Azerbaijani people and all the symbols of our statehood.

The official part of the event started with the performance of the National Anthem.

Advisor to the rector of the Azerbaijan University Nushaba Guliyeva made the opening speech, and noted that our tricolor flag is sacred and dear to every citizen of Azerbaijan. Flag Square and Flag Museums are active in all cities and regions. Establishment of the National Flag Day by the decree of President Ilham Aliyev is a clear example of the fact that the state leader has a historical heritage. Nushaba Guliyeva also confidently expressed that our victory flag will soon fluctuate in Shusha, Lachin, Kalbajar and other occupied lands.

The officer of the strategic researches under the President, candidate of social sciences Afgan Veliyev provided a historical background  about the returning of the tricolor flag from the building of the Parliament of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic on April 27, 1920. The guest noted that after the Bolshevik occupation, one of the public figures who emigrated to foreign countries was Secretary-Senator Mirza Bala Mammadzade. On April 27 he took over the Bolsheviks' flag in order to prevent it from falling  and kept it in the countries where he lived.

The guest said that he had accidentally got information about the flag: After Mirza Bala Mammadzade died, the flag was entrusted to Eldanis Kurtulane. Eldaniz Kurtulan also testified to me when I studied in Turkey, I was taught a scientific work, because it is connected with the history of political thought and Mirza Bala Mammadzade. ”

Afgan Valiev said that this was reported to President Ilham Aliyev and that his flag was delivered the country. The guest noted that, the assignment of President Ilham Aliyev and his decree on declaring 2018 as the "Year of the People's Republic of Azerbaijan" is the respect and reverence of the head of state for our flag, our statehood history and the founders

Afgan Valiyev said: "The desire of all the emigrants was to bring this flag to Azerbaijan and submit it to the leadership of the country.

Vice-rector for Scientific Affairs Yusif Gasimov, Dean of Business and Economics Faculty Ali Hasanov, Head of the Department of Social Sciences Gabil Aliyev delivered gratitude to the guest for interesting historical facts and congratulated the participants on the occasion of the National Flag Day.

In the artistic part of the event, the students performed poetry and musical numbers to glorify the flag.
