A commemorative event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was held at the Azerbaijan University. At the opening of the event, the memory of the victims of the genocide was marked with a minute of silence, and the national anthem of the Azerbaijan Republic was sounded.

At the event, it was noted that the Azerbaijani state arose as a result of a hard and difficult, but glorious struggle, the Azerbaijani people achieved national freedom, state independence due to heavy losses and tragedies. One of these tragedies is the genocide committed during the occupation of the Khojaly city  against the peaceful Azerbaijani population by the Armenian Armed Forces with the participation of the 366th Russian motorized rifle division on the night of February 25-26, 1992.

It was reported that the Khojaly genocide at the same time is an integral part of a large, seriously considered and developed plan, a policy of aggressive ethnic cleansing by the Armenians against the Azerbaijani people. Despite the fact that similar tragedies and acts of ethnic cleansing were carried out in many places of the world in the 20th century, Khojaly is the most horrific page in history among them. This terrible tragedy is one of the heaviest crimes not only in relation to the Azerbaijani people, but also to all mankind. During the period of occupation, samples of national culture were purposefully destroyed, monuments that made it possible to study the history of mankind were destroyed.

The speeches provided information about the causes, methods of implementation and results of the Khojaly genocide. It was noted that revenge for the victims of the Khojaly genocide, forever imprinted in the memory of our people, was carried out on the battlefield as a result of the great victory we won in the 44-day war, and the blood shed by them did not go unpunished.

At the event, it was emphasized that the annual holding of commemorative events on the anniversary of the genocide in our country and abroad is of great moral importance. Because forgotten tragedies are repeated.
