The 26th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was commemorated at Azerbaijan University

The event dedicated to the 26th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide and the photo exhibition "Khojaly genocide in lens" were held at the Azerbaijan University today. The pictures taken by the local and foreign photographers and journalists in Khojali and Aghdam are demonstrated in the exhibition.

The event was preceded by a group of university management, a group of faculty members, family members and relatives of genocide martyrs. The event was commemorated with a minute of silence on the victims of the genocide.

The event was opened by the rector of the university, Saadat Aliyeva. The rector noted that the those what happened in Khojaly on February 25-26, 1992, were the most terrible tragedy of the last century and the act of savagery. The Azerbaijani state takes all necessary steps to recognize the tragedy as a genocide act against our people, to restore justice and to prosecute those who commited genocide in the international court. To convey this crime to the world community is a civil duty of every Azerbaijani.

Later, the guests of the University – Yasaman Huseynova, a daughter of Khajali's "Mikhailos" and national hero, Khojaly genocide martyr Tofig Huseynov, Khatira Mirzayeva and Hamayil Khalilova who lost both parents during the genocide made a speech on spitting facts about the scale and details of the tragedy. Guests sharing the traumatic events they witnessed and lived with the participants of the event called for the students to be active in the information war.

Questions addressed by students to the guests were also answered during the event.

The photo exhibition "Khojaly genocide in the lens" will be open until February 28. The university team will take part in the nationwide rally on February 26. During the day there will be a demonstration of "Hoca" and "Faryad" feature films for students in the assembly halls of the University.
