The new book "Development of transport in the Caucasus" has been published by Professor Gabil Aliyev, the Head of the Social Sciences Department of Azerbaijan University. The end of the XVIII and the beginning of the XIX century on the eve of the occupation of the region by the Russian Empire, and in the next century the situation of traditional caravan routes, the Caspian and Black Sea shores, the importance of roads to Tbilisi and to the European part of Russia, which has become an administrative center of the Caucasus, measures to develop shipping in the Kura River and in the Caspian Sea has been investigated in the book.

The author outlines the measures about the construction of the first railroads on the imperial scale and the railway construction projects in the Caucasus and the implementation of the economic, social and cultural implications of railway transport and highways in the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the book.

Scientific editor of the 400-page book is academician Yagub Mahmudov, reviewers - Professor Jamal Mustafayev, Doctor of History Irada Bagirova and Doctor of History Sevinj Aliyev.
