Azerbaijan University hosted an international conference on "Ethnogenesis of the Azerbaijani people and the issue of national identity". At the conference, issues such as evidence of Azerbaijani Turks living in the Caucasus since ancient times, relations with neighbors, factors affecting the formation of the Caucasian peoples, issues of ethnogenesis in the philological way of thinking, philosophical aspects of ethnogenesis and identity, and the examination of elements of national identity in cultural and artistic examples were discussed.

Rector of Azerbaijan University Saadat Aliyeva opened the international conference with an introductory speech. The rector said in her speech that the higher educational institution she leads, when organizing a conference, usually gives priority to topics that are relevant in the life of the people of Azerbaijan and the state, and tries to provide a platform for discussing these issues. At the conference, Saadat Aliyeva expressed her confidence that the ethnogenesis of the Azerbaijani people will be analyzed from aspects such as history, language, and culture, and that the antiquity of our people and the ownership of our historical lands will be proven by scientific facts.

Adding that these days are a special period for each of us, the rector said, "Because every day we lived two years ago brought us closer to November 8 - the great day of victory under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev. After the military victory, the more difficult thing - political and legal victory is also needed, in which scientific approaches are of special importance," she stressed.

At the opening ceremony of the conference, members of the Science and Education Committee of the Milli Majlis, and Member of Parliament Jeyhun Mammadov also spoke. Noting that discussions on national issues are relevant to Azerbaijani society and serious propaganda is being conducted against Azerbaijan in the world, the MP emphasized the importance of the conference in this regard. Academician Yagub Mahmudov and academician Nizami Jafarov, full members of ANAS, were plenary speakers at the conference. Academician Yagub Mahmudov's report is dedicated to the topic "How the process of the formation of the Azerbaijani people was falsified." Academician Nizami Jafarov delivered a report on "Ethno-language processes in Azerbaijan in ancient times." The plenary session of the conference concluded with the speech of d.m.s. Yusif Gasimov, vice-rector for scientific affairs of Azerbaijan University. The vice-rector thanked all guests who came to Azerbaijan University to participate in the event, as well as the organizing committee of the conference for efficient and productive activity.

After the opening ceremony and the plenary session, the conference work will be divided into history (ethnogenesis of the Azerbaijani people in the context of ethnic processes in the Caucasus region), philology (problems of ethnogenesis in the philological way of thinking), philosophy (philosophical aspects of ethnogenesis and identity), culture (the question of national identity in our cultural and artistic monuments) continued at the section meeting.
