Nariman Buyukkishi, Head of the Department of Finance and Accounting of Azerbaijan University and Gahraman Yusupov, lecturer of the Department, participated in the 1st meeting of educational institutions specializing in tourism of member states of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). In the panel discussions of the event jointly organized by the State Tourism Agency and the OECD, our employees made a number of proposals to improve tourism education in terms of its content and quality.

The purpose of the meeting is to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and experience of local and foreign higher education institutions offering tourism education. The event, held on December 4-5, 2023 in Baku, is attended by representatives of the relevant government agencies and tourism education institutions of 9 OECD member countries (Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Iran and Pakistan), as well as the UN World Tourism Organization.

Panel discussions on “State, education and industry coordination: best practices in tourism education”, “Curriculum development: improving tourism education for future demand”, “Innovation and technology: new trends in tourism education” were held on the first day of the event. And today, it is planned to organize a round table among the member countries of the organization on the topics of expanding the partnership opportunities for tourism education and creating a single network of tourism education institutions, as well as to develop cooperation in various fields related to tourism education, and to adopt the “Baku Declaration”, which reflects the intention to hold this first meeting on a regular basis.
