World Social Work Day was celebrated at Azerbaijan University

Traditional professional solidarity event on the occasion of World Social Work Day was held at Azerbaijan University. The event was organized by members of “Volunteers” club named after the martyr, former social worker Fakhraddin Gurbanli, operating under the Department of Social Work Organization. The new chairman of another student club – the “Empathy” club operating under the department was presented to students at the event. 

The event was opened by head of the Department of Social Work Organization, PhD in Psychology Tunzala Verdieva, who told about essence of the Day and congratulated students on their professional holiday. Head of the Department said that the World Social Work Day, dedicated to one topic every year, is held this year under the motto “Respect for diversity through joint social activities” and falls on March 21. Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Associate Prof. Safar Mammadov congratulated participants of the event on the upcoming Novruz holiday and conveyed good wishes to them. During the speeches, activities of Muhammad Alekbarov, former chairman of the Empathy Club, a fourth-year student majoring in Social Work, were highly appreciated.

Then Muhammed Alekperov and new chairman of the club Samira Bakhshaliyeva, a 2nd year student majoring in Social Work, were invited to the podium. The new chairman said she would justify the trust placed in her.

The event ended with presentation of Ahmad Nazarli, a 3rd year student majoring in Social Work and a member of “Volunteers” club named after the martyr, former social worker Fakhraddin Gurbanli,  titled “The role of social work in our personal development”.

It should be noted that World Social Work Day is intended to emphasize activities of social workers, their contribution to the development of society, to remind of importance of awareness about the problems of people in need of special care. It is celebrated annually on the third Tuesday of March.
