An event dedicated to the heritage of Mirza Alakbar Sabir was held at Azerbaijan University
An event titled “Mirza Alakbar Sabir Heritage and Promotion of the Azerbaijani Literary Language” was organized by the Student Scientific Society (SSS) of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Azerbaijan University. The guest of the event was Mirza Alakbar Sabir's granddaughter, founder and president of the Mirza Alakbar Sabir Foundation, assoc. prof. Sevda Tahirli. Leading specialist of the Monitoring Center under the State Language Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan Gunel Hajiyeva, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Safar Mammadov, head of the Department of Political and Social Sciences Elvin Talyshinski, and SSS members attended the event with educational speeches dedicated to the creativity of Mirza Alakbar Sabir, the founder of the satirical school in Azerbaijani poetry.
The Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Safar Mammadov, opened the event with an introductory speech, noting that the issues addressed by the poet in his works remain relevant today.
Sevda Tahirli, President of the Mirza Alakbar Sabir Foundation, provided information on the work undertaken by the Foundation headed by her to research and popularize Sabir's heritage. She shared that the “Mirza Alakbar Sabir Virtual Museum” project was successfully implemented in honor of the great poet’s 155th anniversary. Through this project, materials and information related to Sabir from various sources were compiled to create a unified database. Sabir's work Hophopname, the pinnacle of his creativity, was performed by students in an audiovisual format. In the future, Azerbaijan University students will also have the opportunity to participate in similar projects.
Gunel Hajiyeva, a leading specialist of the Monitoring Center under the State Language Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan, presented the findings of a monitoring study on the use of the Azerbaijani language in dubbing. She shared examples of language norm violations identified during the monitoring and provided commentary on these issues.
To conclude, attendees were presented with the first and only interview given by Mirza Alakbar Sabir to literary critic, publicist, and journalist Salman Mumtaz in 1910. This interview was published by Professor Shirmammad Huseynov in “Gunay” newspaper on April 20, 2002.
