The COP29 simulation Summit was held
The COP29 simulation was carried out at the initiative of Azerbaijan University and in partnership with the Social Research Center. The summit organized after 3 months of training of the simulation, which was the first in Azerbaijan, was attended by 30 students from 6 higher education institutions (Azerbaijan University, Baku State University, Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, Azerbaijan Tourism and Management University, Baku Engineering University).
At the opening ceremony of the event, dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics of Azerbaijan University Khanym Guliyeva, head of the Department of Political and Social Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Elvin Talyshinsky, head of the department of the Center for Social Studies Aziz Alibayli spoke about the economic and political significance of COP29 for Azerbaijan.
After the opening, the floor was given to the participants. The summit consisted of two sessions, official and free. Students representing the main participants of the conference 15 states, 13 international and local non-governmental organizations with observer status, as well as 2 media organizations made a report on behalf of the parties and discussed issues such as environmental cooperation between countries, transition to green energy and green economy, the impact of wars on climate change.
In the end, the Final Declaration was adopted.
It should be noted that the simulation was carried out by the Action Plan of the Azerbaijan University regarding the 29th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP 29), the sixth session of the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 19) and the sixth session of the meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA 6) to be hosted by Baku in November, as well as the declaration of 2024 as the “Year of Solidarity for the Sake of the Green World” in the country. The purpose of the simulation is to transfer knowledge to students about the impact and consequences of political decisions of states on the environment and the planet, to develop in them the skills of public speaking, forming arguments and conducting debates, and to educate students about the mentioned international event.
