Main Drug Enforcement Department holds educational event for students

The Main Drug Enforcement Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan held an awareness event for students of Azerbaijan University on the topic “Combating illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and drug addiction”. The lecturer of the event was police captain Bakhtiyar Abbaszadeh, an employee of the department.

Tunzala Verdiyeva, head of the Organization of Social Work Department, introduced the guest to the students and said that drug addiction, which is one of the main problems worrying the world today, has not bypassed Azerbaijan. Fight against drug addiction should not only be the task of state bodies, all members of society, including young people, should join this fight. 

The department lecturer Firuza Huseynova, who teaches the subject “Social work with drug and alcohol addicted persons”, touched upon the importance of preventive and educational work in the fight against illegal drug trafficking. 

In his speech, the representative of the Main Drug Enforcement Department, police Captain Bakhtiyar Abbaszade spoke in detail about drug addiction and its consequences for the state, society and the individual, as well as about problems faced by drug users. Stressing that drugs are the most dangerous substance causing addiction, Bakhtiyar Abbaszade urged young people to stay away from such substances and from external influences that lead people to destruction. 

The guest also informed participants about the works done, ongoing projects and awareness activities as part of the “State Program to fight illicit trafficking in drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors in 2019-2024”, approved by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Bakhtiyar Abbaszade noted that Azerbaijan is conducting a serious and resolute fight against illicit drug trafficking and drug addiction. 

At the end, students ' questions on the topic were answered.
