The final reporting event of the Diplomatic Table simulation project was held

The final reporting event of the Diplomatic Table simulation project, which was implemented at the initiative of the Department of Political and Social Sciences, was held at Azerbaijan University. The event was attended by professor Hikmat Mammadov and Jala Ahmadova, Members of the Milli Majlis, Yusif Gasimov, vice-rector for scientific affairs of Azerbaijan University, Nushaba Guliyeva, advisor to the Rector, director of the International Magistrate and Doctorate Center, the academic and administrative staff of the University, the project participants, experts and parents of the students.

The National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played at the event, and the participants expressed their respect for the memory of the martyrs who gave their lives for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan with a minute of silence.

Rafig Ibrahimov, a lecturer of the Department of Political and Social Sciences and moderator of the simulations, opened the event and informed about the Diplomatic Table project. Rafik Ibragimov noted that the project serves to develop students skills in conducting a discussion, using facts, putting forward arguments and refuting the arguments of an opponent.

Head of the Department of Political Sciences, PhD in Political Sciences Elvin Talyshinsky emphasized in his speech the importance of simulation lessons and events in the educational process, and thanked the Rector of Azerbaijan University Saadat Aliyeva for her support in implementation of the project. Head of the Department said that nowadays it is of great importance to instill new and practical skills in students along with traditional and theoretical knowledge. Most of the participants of the Diplomatic Table were selected from among the 1st year students and special attention was paid to the relevance of the discussion topics. Elvin Talyshinsky noted that the Diplomatic Table Simulation Championship will be held next semester.

In her speech, MP Jala Ahmadova brought to the attention of the event participants her views on the relevance of the project and emphasized that the simulation discussions filled a significant gap. Touching upon the high diplomatic skills of the president of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Supreme Commander-In-Chief Ilham Aliyev in restoring the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan, MP Hikmet Mammadov spoke about the importance of instilling diplomatic knowledge and skills to students studying in relevant specialties. In their speeches, the MPs confidently noted that Azerbaijan's successes in the field of diplomacy will continue to be sustainable.

Nushaba Guliyeva, Rector's Advisor, Director of the International Magistrate and Doctorate Center, Khanym Guliyeva, dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, project participants Rahim Bayramov (Political Science, 2nd year) and Basti Agaliyeva (State and Public Relations, 1st year), parent and graduate of Azerbaijan University Mehman Ismayilov (Law, 2005), Project experts Kamran Behbudov and Rauf Samadov also spoke at the reporting event and shared their impressions about the Project.

A video about the students participating in the simulation project and the topics discussed was demonstrated at the event, and the participants were presented certificates and badges.

At the end, the commemorative photo was taken.

It should be noted that the project, launched in the autumn semester of the 2023/2024 academic year, discussed Azerbaijan-Russia, Azerbaijan-France, Turkey-Israel, Russia-Ukraine and Azerbaijan-USA relations. 48 students majoring in “International relations”, “Political science”, “State and public relations”, and “History” (with 8 teams and 6 people in each team) took part in the simulations.
